The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 honor winnings to the MVT, which operates to save the Britain's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was awarded the prize on mid-October as his latest record his work was named the top album of the past year.

He has decided to donate the funds to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part local spots had in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the gigs I did around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

The money assisted venues that were facing imminent closure due to issues arising from flooding, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and sound issues.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in improving amenities and gear that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from shows in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," the star has said.

Fender is not the first artist to give his Mercury Prize funds to good deeds.

Back when the band won the award in the year 1996 for their release the album, vocalist the singer stated that the act would contribute their prize money to the organization War Child.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty among a few charities, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed new equipment," the artist explained to outlets.

Two years ago, the band gave their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also the 1994 recipients the group gave their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated artist Heather Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our success touched another person's life."

In the past week, the trust shared it had protected several grassroots venues in the South East, by placing them under community ownership.

The Joiners in Southampton and The Croft in that location were purchased under the community ownership program, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "shares" in the venues.
